Clergy Reflections, Christine, August 3,2025
My Friends in Christ,
School is almost back in session!
With that, comes the promise of increased traffic, fall programming at
church, and pools that are a little less crowded. It also brings the hope of cooler weather…even though that
can feel like quite a big hope for us!
At church, the return of fall also means the return of structure, rhythms, and the sacred tradition of trying to
remember which week it is in the liturgical calendar. “Is it still after Pentecost? Yes. It’s always after
Pentecost!”
We’re getting ready for a great season at St. Matthew’s. Godly Play, Sunday School, Youth Group, adult
formation, choirs, fellowship, outreach…and coffee. Whether you’re someone who’s been counting the days
until Backpack Sunday (August 17th) or someone who’s just trying to survive back to school chaos, we want you to know the most important thing ever:
There’s a place for you here.
Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” (Matthew 18:20). While
that’s a deep theological truth, it’s also a reminder that God shows up in small, imperfect groups…including
preschool pick-up lines, choir rehearsals, committee meetings, and yes, even vestry.
So, beloveds, let’s gather. Let’s reconnect. Let’s laugh and learn and maybe even feel a tad bit cooler as the
season shifts. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us at St. Matthew’s this fall!
Also, just as a reminder, whatever this new season brings for you and your family, let us know. Whether it’s
joy-filled, grief-filled, or somewhere in between, you have support here. We love you.
We walk this road together. Always.
In Christ’s Peace,
Christine+
