The Rev. Dr. Andrew Benko
Associate, St Matt’s Austin, Austin
Email: abenko@stmattsaustin.org

The Rev. Andrew Benko grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and went to college in Santa Fe; two decades of Cajun cooking and Hatch chile left him with a lead-lined palate and a taste for spicy foods. Andrew earned his M.Div at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in New Testament from Brite Divinity School. His first book, Race in John’s Gospel, is available from Fortress Academic.
Fr. Benko is a half-time associate priest at St. Matthew’s, overseeing Adult Formation. He also serves as the Academic Dean of the Iona School for Ministry, which prepares deacons, bivocational priests, and lay ministers for their future ministries in the Diocese of Texas (and beyond).
Whenever he’s not busy reading something eye-crossingly academic, Andrew loves science-fiction and fantasy to an embarrassing degree. He enjoys 70’s rock, bad B-movies, and playing video games with his two kids.
