Lena Carson

Assistent to the Rector, Communications Coordinator; Lena@StMattsAustin.org;

Lena grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and attended Rice University, where she met her husband, James. She pursued a career as a Product Manager in healthcare software development before relocating with her family to Richland, Washington, where they explored the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Eventually, Lena and her family returned to Texas, settling in Austin. There, her children discovered the joys of lake and river recreation, renaissance festivals, inspiring music teachers, and spending time with extended family who also made their way to Austin.

Lena has enjoyed taking part in church life from a young age, as a youth board member of the Diocese of the Rio Grande and later as a Pastoral Care team member, a Godly Play Storyteller, and 2/5 of a brass quintet with James. More recently, she has supported Central Texas churches and church plants as a vestry member, Parish Administrator, Bookkeeper, and Assistant to Music and Worship. Family travel often takes place in the fall to enjoy visits with relatives and the beauty of the season.

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church was the first church Lena visited years ago when her family considered purchasing a home nearby. Later, her youngest child participated in the extremely creative online youth activities organized during the pandemic by Austin-area Episcopal youth ministers, including those at St. Matthew’s. Lena is now excited to join the St. Matthew’s community as a member of the staff.
