Martha was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Hardwick, a small New England village. Music was part of her life from early childhood, and piano lessons turned into organ lessons in high school. But picking up the flute in 7th grade led her to New England Conservatory and a degree in flute and music education. From there she went to SMU for a Master’s degree in Sacred Music, graduating in ‘79.

Her first job was in Carlsbad, NM with 9 choirs at a Methodist church. Missing home, she moved back to New England and held various organist/choirmaster positions. In Newtown, CT she met her husband, Lou; they have been married 34 years and have a daughter, Grace. It was also there that she met the Rev. Charles Huffman, and because of him that she and Lou moved to the Austin area to retire in 2013 and joined St. Matthew’s.

When not working, she enjoys reading, working out, taking care of their two Havanese pups, and cooking.
