The Rev. Christine Brunson joined St. Matthew’s as Assisting Clergy in January 2023, after completing her curacy at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church in Cypress, Texas. She recently served as Chaplain for the Port of Houston with the Seamen’s Church Institute, focused on serving inland and intracoastal mariners, and assists at St. Matthew’s on some Sundays.
Christine’s mission is ministry for grace, healing, and resilience. Prior to ordained ministry, she worked as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in hospitals and other healthcare settings. For several years, Christine has focused on crisis and disaster response ministry with veterans, first responders, and healthcare professionals. Since being ordained, she has served as a chaplain with veterans and first responders around issues of trauma and resilience, including work along the Ukraine/Poland border following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“When I was in college, my campus missioner met me exactly as I was and walked with me from there. Simply, that is my goal in ministry— to meet you exactly as you are, and to walk with you through the valleys and mountains of this life.”
Christine earned her BA and MS in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Baylor University and her Master of Divinity from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest. She enjoys hiking with her dog Annie, writing for online and print media, and preparing the stand-up comedy routine she is determined to give one day. Born and raised in Austin, Christine enjoys prayerfully informing people in other states that Texas BBQ is the only true BBQ.
